Research focus is on vitamin D. Current cell studies investigate the effect of vitamin D metabolism in human macrophages upon inflammation. Furthermore, we have two ongoing epidemiological studies, where the first explore the predictive value of low vitamin D on development of inflammatory diseases in a large Danish cohort, and the second aim to determine the reference values of several vitamin D metabolites in healthy women of different age groups. The overall research aim is to investigate vitamin D's role in the immune system and to understand what biological role the different metabolites of vitamin D play. This work will hopefully lead to better understanding and treatment of inflammatory diseases based on biochemistry testing of vitamin D metabolites.
