Neurology Research Group

Neurology is increasingly adapting biomarkers to support diagnosis, predict prognosis, and support treatment decisions. In our research group, we focus on neurological biomarkers with a particular emphasis on translating them from the research setting into clinical use. We expect to advance the field, ultimately improving patient care and optimizing the use of healthcare resources. Our research is conducted in the cross field between clinical biochemistry and epidemiology by combining local and large-scale nationwide clinical and biobank data with primary data collection. In the lab, we use advanced immunometric techniques, such as ultra-sensitive digital immunoassays (Simoa, Quanterix), automated electrochemiluminescence immunoassays, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA).

Main research interests are:

  • Biomarkers related to Alzheimer´s disease and other types of dementia, with an emphasis on early detection.
  • Biomarkers related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and myasthenia gravis.
  • Transitioning from biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid to blood-based biomarkers.
  • Validation and implementation of biomarkers in the routine laboratory.
  • Biobanks, including patients with dementia and children.
