My scientific work is predominantly centred around the immune system, in particular inflammation, and one of its key orchestrators; macrophages.

In relation to this overall topic, my research relates primarily to the fields of:

  • Biomarkers of the immune system and the utilisation of these in both disease diagnostics and prognostics
  • Targeted therapy where we exploit the ability of specific immune cells to be treated with encapsulated high-dose substances
  • Vitamin D metabolism and its immunomodulatory properties

I am currently doing a part-time PhD project revolving the relationship between Vitamin D and macrophages in the pulmonary disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
By this project I gain great experience with different aspects of clinical, experimental and register-based research.
