Jacob Gammelgaard Schultz

I am a cardiologist and researcher with a particular interest in interventional cardiology and acute cardiovascular disease. My work focuses on coronary and structural interventions and acute pulmonary embolism. I combine clinical practice with research, aiming to translate clinical challenges into research questions and new evidence into improved patient care.
 

My research focuses on pulmonary embolism, spanning basic and experimental research to clinical trials. I study the haemodynamic consequences of acute pulmonary embolism and the development and evaluation of new treatment strategies, including both pharmacological and catheter-based interventions, with the aim of translating mechanistic insights into improved patient care.
 

I teach medical students and physicians in cardiology and acute cardiovascular medicine through lectures, bedside teaching and simulation-based training. I also supervise junior doctors and contribute to postgraduate medical education, with an emphasis on translating cardiovascular physiology and evidence into clinical decision-making.
 

I collaborate with national and international researchers on pulmonary embolism, haemodynamics and interventional treatment. My collaborations include the international EXPERT-PE network and academic partners in Denmark and abroad, with the aim of advancing translational research and developing new treatment strategies for patients with pulmonary embolism.
 

I contribute to the development and revision of national clinical guidelines in cardiology through the Danish Society of Cardiology. My contributions primarily concern acute pulmonary embolism and related areas of cardiovascular medicine. I also contribute to international academic networks and initiatives within pulmonary embolism.
 

I work as a cardiologist with a primary focus on interventional cardiology, including coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. My clinical work also includes acute and general cardiology, with particular interests in structural heart disease, pulmonary embolism and invasive haemodynamics.
