All research conducted at the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Aarhus University, is at a high international level in collaboration with national and internationally recognized research centers, positioning the department as one of the leading surgical research units in Denmark.
The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery is an academic surgical department where consultant surgeons and staff specialists are active in research projects as an integrated part of their daily clinical work. Surgical fellows and junior doctors are encouraged to initiate or participate in research activities.
Nurses, medical students, and other health professionals also contribute to the department’s research environment. To facilitate patient recruitment and compliance with clinical studies, patient and public involvement have a strong voice in the research process.
Research projects initiated and led by the research unit have priority over other projects. National and international research collaboration is strongly encouraged. Collaboration is facilitated through commitment and representation in the Danish Surgical Society, the Danish Multidisciplinary Cancer Groups, and the international specialized societies.
The research unit positions the department at the cutting edge of clinical and technological development in surgery by implementing new research results into clinical practice.
Scientific output from the research unit will be disseminated through scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and by presentation at national and international scientific conferences.
