How can we save most lives and ensure the best possible outcomes for people suffering from cardiac arrest both inside and outside the hospital? This question is the focus of Lars Wiuff Andersen’s research. In addition to his professorship at the university, Lars Wiuff Andersen is also a medical doctor and affiliated with the Department of Intensive Care at Aarhus University Hospital and the pre-hospital services in the Central Denmark Region.

Lars Wiuff Andersen’s research has included studies on whether patients who suffer cardiac arrest at hospital benefit from being treated with bicarbonate and whether the best way to treat cardiac arrest outside hospital is by administering medication intravenously or via intraosseous transfusion into the bone marrow.

"I’m a clinical researcher, which is why some of my group's findings have direct significance for the way we treat patients. The professorship gives me an opportunity to continue doing clinical research and to develop more ambitious projects in the future," says Lars Wiuff Andersen.

He took up his professorship at the Department of Clinical Medicine on 1 March 2024.
