Jørgen Bjerggaard Jensen’s areas of research are bladder cancer and robotic surgery. As of May 2014, he is professor at Aarhus University, consultant at Aarhus University Hospital and responsible for research at the Regional Hospital West Jutland in Holstebro.

The extensive professorship is part of a larger cooperation across the Central Denmark Region and is targeted at research into bladder cancer and robotic surgery.

The professorship is affiliated with a clinical position as consultant at Aarhus University Hospital, Department of Urology. In addition, Jørgen Bjerggaard Jensen will be part of the team at the Department of Urology at the Regional Hospital West Jutland in Holstebro.

The department in Holstebro already has a research unit and this will be further strengthened by the new professorship in the area of bladder cancer and robotic surgery, in which Jørgen Bjerggaard Jensen has his expertise.

”My team and I carry out our research into urological cancers, particularly cancer of the urinary bladder. The aim of our research is to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic methods and with the help of robotic surgery to improve the process following cancer surgery. The professorship makes it possible for us to develop a strong research unit and promote research cooperation,” explains Jørgen Bjerggaard Jensen.

As part of the affiliation with Aarhus University Hospital, he will work with the Department of Molecular Medicine with the aim of developing the cooperation between molecular medical research into the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer and the everyday clinical aspect.

The professorship is funded not only by Aarhus University, but also by the Department of Molecular Medicine and the Abdominal Centre at Aarhus University Hospital, the Department of Urology at the Regional Hospital West Jutland, and the hospital management.

Jørgen Bjerggaard Jensen was born on 17 August 1974 in Løkken and today lives in Aarhus.
