Research

My research interests focus on the mechanisms underlying autoimmune and neuroinflammatory diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). I am especially interested in how genetic variation affects the immune system and thereby contributes to disease development.

We combine genetic studies with experimental investigations of the underlying biological mechanisms to improve our understanding of these diseases and to identify mechanisms of potential therapeutic relevance.

Job responsibilities

Neuroimmunology and autoimmune diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis and NMOSD. Genetics and immunological disease mechanisms, as well as the development and use of experimental animal models, including humanised mouse models of multiple sclerosis, coeliac disease and narcolepsy.

Previous research has also focused on hypothalamic neurons, including the role of orexin/hypocretin neurons in the regulation of sleep and appetite.
