I am Group Leader of the Molecular Neuroscience Laboratory at the Translational Neuropsychiatry Unit (TNU). I hold an MSc in Molecular Biology from Aarhus University (2002) and a PhD in Biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin (2006).
Following my doctoral studies, I joined the Centre for Psychiatric Research at Aarhus University Hospital. In 2014, the unit was transferred to Aarhus University, and I subsequently joined TNU as an Associate Professor. My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders.
My current research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of neuronal receptor trafficking, signaling, processing and synaptic plasticity in neurodegenerative diseases. By integrating molecular and cellular approaches with clinically anchored questions, we seek to understand the mechanisms underlying dementia and age-related cognitive decline and translate these insights into opportunities for early detection and therapeutic intervention.
Currently, I teach Neurobiology as part of the Master's Programme in Molecular Medicine, as well as Biological Psychiatry under the Master's Programme in Medicine.
Beyond classroom instruction, I supervise Master's and PhD students on research projects that span various aspects of molecular biology and neuroscience.
