Mads Rasmussen

Head of the Neuroanesthesia Research Unit at the Department of Anesthesiology.
I hold a degree in Medicine from Aarhus University (AU) and earned my PhD from AU in 2004. From 2016 to 2026, I was Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, AU, before being appointed Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology in 2026.

My research focuses on anesthesia and blood pressure management during endovascular stroke therapy and on the effects of anesthetics and vasopressors on cerebral and systemic perfusion and oxygen delivery

My research focuses on anesthetic and hemodynamic management in endovascular stroke therapy and on how vasopressors affect cerebral and systemic perfusion and oxygen delivery. The aim is to improve our understanding of the relationship between blood pressure, organ perfusion, and metabolism and to develop more individualized hemodynamic strategies for patients with acute brain injury. We combine translational physiology with clinical neuroanesthesia research.

My primary responsibilities are to lead and develop neuroanesthesia research, supervise PhD students and other researchers, and initiate and conduct clinical and translational research projects. I also contribute to teaching, research strategy, and national and international research collaborations
