Research

MMF conducts research within mechanisms and biomarker of various diseases, with particular focus on the role of mitochondria in disease processes. MMF’s research is translational and interdisciplinary in nature, and the goal is to contribute to better conceptual understanding of pathogenesis and cellular pathophysiology and to utilize this knowledge to improve diagnosis and treatment. In other words, a precision medicine approach. The research includes extensive studies on basic molecular mechanisms involving mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The MMF’s research is based on the senior’s research concepts, which covers a range of disease categories. A panel of adequate state-of-the-art methodologies (for DNA, cells, proteome, metabolites etc) are used and these are continuously developed in line with scientific advances.
