In my clinical work, I work as a Senior Consultant in Cardiology at Aarhus University Hospital, with responsibility for medical education and clinical duties related to acute cardiac conditions, cardiac intensive care, and especially the care of survivors of cardiac arrest.
I graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Copenhagen, where I also defended both my PhD and higher doctoral dissertation (DMSc) in post-cardiac arrest care, with a focus on hemodynamics, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and prognostic implications.
My research portfolio is centered on post-cardiac arrest syndrome and clinical outcome. I have elucidated the pathophysiological mechanisms underpinning post-resuscitation complications, particularly the roles of systemic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and impaired hemodynamics. These investigations have provided critical insights into the prognostic markers and therapeutic targets relevant to early post-arrest care.
I have contributed to clinical studies assessing its impact on neurological recovery and also explored the complex interface between acute cardiovascular support and neurocritical care, emphasizing the importance of early and accurate neuroprognostication to guide treatment decisions and optimize outcomes.
I am the Course Leader for Medicine and Surgery, a 20 ECTS credit course in the graduate program of medical studies at Aarhus University. The course covers medical education across 10 clinical specialties within medicine and surgery.
I personally teach parts of the cardiology curriculum, and in close collaboration with colleagues from anesthesiology, we conduct a symposium focused on cardiac arrest.
Expert knowledge in survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, cardiac intensive care including therapeutic hypothermia and neuroprognostication. Expert experience in the investigation of the etiology of cardiac arrest, assessment of post-arrest complications, screening for cognitive dysfunction, and evaluation of relevant neurorehabilitation options.
Extensive experience in general and specialized rehabilitation within ischemic heart disease, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, and survivors of cardiac arrest.
