My scientific work is predominantly centred around the immune system, in particular inflammation, and one of its key orchestrators; macrophages.

In relation to this overall topic, my focus is especially on:

·         Biomarkers of the immune system and the utilisation of these in disease diagnostics and prognostics

·         Targeted therapy where specific immune cells are treated with encapsulated high-dose substances

·         Vitamin D metabolism and its immunomodulatory properties

I am currently doing a PhD project revolving the relationship between Vitamin D and macrophages in the pulmonary disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Besides the immune system, I am also very interested in the validation and development of routine chemical analyses. Examples of such analyses are markers of infection, hormones, vitamins and drugs of abuse. The methods for these analyses include various different techniques within clinical biochemistry (e.g. spectrometry, luminescence and electroanalytical methods).
