The recipient of The Rising Star Award must show exceptional research in the field of schizophrenia as well as a promising research trajectory. And, according to The Schizophrenia International Research Society, Oleguer Plana-Ripoll from the Department of Clinical Medicine meets both requirements.

Oleguer Plana-Ripoll and his research colleagues bring together advanced epidemiological methods and large databases, e.g. electronic healthcare records and population-based surveys, to understand the causes and consequences of mental disorders. The focus of their research is to analyze the impact of mental disorders on several health and societal outcomes, including comorbidity and mortality.

Receiving the award is a huge motivational factor Oleguer Plana-Ripoll when it comes to keeping up the good work.

“I am deeply honored to receive The Rising Star Award 2024. This award not only recognizes our research contributions, it also underscores the immense support that the Society provides to early career researchers. My work is inherently collaborative and interdisciplinary, and I have been fortunate to learn from brilliant mentors, including Professor John McGrath, who nominated me for the award,” says Oleguer Plana-Ripoll.
